Lark Bunting - Colorado State Bird

The lark bunting is the state bird of Colorado. This bird is about 6" long and is black with white wing edges. The female is brown.
Officially known as Calamospiza melanocorys, the lark bunting lives in large flocks. It enjoys meadows and grasslands, living from Canada through Mexico. The birds live on insects and seeds.
Lark buntings have up to two sets of chicks each season, laying the little blue eggs in grass nests on the ground. The chicks take only 24 days to go from just-laid egg to fully flying bird.
