If you’re a fan of the popular bestselling Nick and Nora Series, you’ll want to pick up a copy of installment number six, A Purr Before Dying. Nora Charles, owner of a sandwich shop called Hot Bread, is hired to cater for a soap opera filming. Unfortunately, the director is found murdered, and Nora, who is an amateur sleuth, gets involved because her best friend’s brother, Remy, is the prime suspect. While Nora is sure that Remy is innocent, there is plenty of circumstantial evidence that points to him.

While this is a light and fun cozy, it has plenty of building suspense. Nora gets herself into lots of trouble as the story unfolds, and Nick is right there helping her with clues from his favorite toy, scrabble tiles. Nick, as usual, escapes the house when he is supposed to stay home, and when Nora gets her friends or her sister to watch him.

LoTempio has done an excellent job of developing the main characters, and they are believable and likeable. The supporting characters are also believable and some aren’t particularly likeable. The story has plenty of twists and turns, which keep readers on the edge. Nick is a terrific protagonist along with Nora, and he is so loveable that most of us wish we had a cat just like him.

All told, this series is delightful and a fun one to follow. A Purr Before Dying is a winner and will delight readers who will seek out the previous novels in the series. Incidentally, this is a series of culinary mysteries and has recipes as a bonus to the fun mystery plots.
