Angel Face and Campfire roses are two outstanding rose varieties. These are ideal for home landscapes.


Campfire Hybrid Rose

Very hardy, Campfire hybrid rose thrives in zone three. It does best in zones three through seven. This was introduced in 2013 from Canada.

The compact, carefree shrub reaches two to three feet in height with a matching spread. The disease resistant plant has foliage edged in red.

Campfire rose blooms continuously throughout the season. Butterflies are attracted to the blossoms. These roses are medium sized, three to 3 ½ inches wide.

They’re semi-double with petals in a mix of hot colors for which the plant is named. The newly opened flowers are nearly yellow with pink along the edges.
Later, as the blooms age, the color becomes a much deeper pink.

Angel Face Floribunda Rose

Traditionally, red roses are largely a tradition, especially for Valentine’s Day. However, roses come in so many other wonderful, breathtaking colors, including varying shades of purple. Angel Face floribunda rose is in the purple range.

This rose is recommended for zones four through nine. This is a shrub rose. In addition to the Angel Face floribunda form, there is also an Angel Face climbing rose, which reaches eight to eleven feet in height.

This shrub rose is a spreading, bushy, rounded plant. It reaches three to four feet in height with a spread of three feet. The vigorous, disease resistant plant is moderately thorny.

This rose was hybridized by Herbert Swim and O.L. Weeks. It was introduced by Conard Pyle to the U.S. in 1968. Angel face floribunda rose’s parentage included Circus, Sterling Silver, and Lavender Pinnocchio.

This award winning plant was named an All America Rose Selections variety in 1969. It also received the American Rose Society’s John Cook Medal in 1971.

The free flowering variety blooms throughout the season. These flowers are borne in clusters. Three to four inches wide, these medium sized to large roses are noted for their intense citrus-like fragrance.

Angel Face roses feature twenty-five to thirty-five petals. The wavy edged, double, ruffled flowers are quite spectacular largely due to their unusual color, which is typically an exquisite silvery lavender. But, the color has also been known to range from pastel purple to lavender-pink. In addition to the silver lavender petals, the petal tips can also offer additional shades of color, such as dark purple, scarlet to ruby, or cherry red.
