The second installment of Kelle Riley’s Undercover Cat Series Shaken Not Purred finds Bree Watson, who has added spy to her scientist career (because she thought it would be fun), is working undercover and discovers a body. Because of her undercover status, she must take care of the problem. Luckily she, as an amateur sleuth, isn’t stupid, and is actually quite good at it. As the story unfolds, she interacts with several interesting characters – some good and some a little dodgy – through twists and turns that are unexpected.

Anyone who read the first novel in the series knows that Riley is a good storyteller and weaves her tales in a way that is easy to follow and understandable for all ages. Bree, also known as Cat in her spy life, is a good protagonist, and easy to like. Riley does a good job of developing her character, as well as the sub-characters, and they complement each other to move the story along. The characters are similar to real people who most readers know, so they are believable and seem real.

All told, this is a fun cozy with unique characters that come together to make a good novel.
